Punjab: 15 kg heroin seized from a person who returned from Britain

Punjab: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force of Border Range has seized 15.4 kg heroin from a UK returnee. The suspect has been identified as Prabhjeet Singh, a resident of border village Maude. He was arrested from Chheharta area following a tip-off that he was about to deliver a consignment of drugs to some persons on the instructions of some Pakistani drug smugglers. ANTF Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh confirmed the seizure and said that as per preliminary investigation, police have found that he was in direct contact with a Pakistani smuggler alias Chacha or Rana. He was produced before a duty magistrate who remanded him to police custody. Investigation revealed that Prabhjeet went to England in 2021 and returned in 2023. During his stay there, he came in contact with Chacha through a drug smuggler Gurlal Singh of his village.

After Gurlal’s death, the Pakistani smuggler lured him into the illegal drug trade to earn easy money. Gurpreet Singh said, “On Saturday, Prabhjeet was on his way to deliver a consignment of drugs in a car in Chheharta area when the ANTF team stopped him. During the search, the police recovered heroin from the car.” He further said that the drugs were smuggled through drones, but the investigation is ongoing. Investigation is on to identify the area from where the drugs were smuggled into Indian territory. Although the accused claimed that he was supplying drugs for the first time, the police said that his past and future connections are being investigated.
