Punjab: 100-year-old Bachan Singh was among those evacuated from flood-hit villages in Sultanpur Lodhi who were evacuated to a safer place by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal appealed to residents to move to safer places due to the rising water level in the Beas river. Following this, many people contacted the administration’s helpline for immediate assistance. Bachan Singh’s family pleaded for help, following which an SDRF team was immediately dispatched to rescue him.
After being brought to safety, Deputy Commissioner Panchal spoke to the elderly survivor and took stock of his condition and directed officials to provide him with medical aid as well as necessary ration and relief assistance. Officials are urging people living in low-lying areas to remain alert and seek timely assistance through official helplines as rescue and relief operations are still underway.
