Dhanbad (IANS) | Dr. Yashwant Gujala, Assistant Professor, IIT-ISM, Dhanbad, died today while taking a bath in the swimming pool. It was told that Prof. Ujala went to take a bath with her friends in the campus swimming pool in the morning. During this he drowned. He was taken to the health center of ISM, where the doctor referred him to Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital. Here he was declared dead. Pro. Yashwant Gujala was a resident of Odisha. He was married only a year ago.
There were 28 people in the pool when Dr Gujala drowned. It is being told that he was taking a bath in the swimming pool on the shore. Meanwhile, due to losing balance, he drifted towards deep water and started drowning. The swimming pool has two sides. One can wade straight down into the swimming pool where the water is less. On the other hand, there is a provision for jumping directly into the swimming pool. Dr Yashwant jumped into the swimming pool from the other side. After jumping, he went straight under the water, which caused him to drown. Aides pulled him out and took him to the Student Health Center.
Despair spread in the IIT ISM campus as soon as the news of the accident spread. Institute’s director Rajeev Shekhar and deputy director Prof. Dhiraj Kumar reached the spot. He told that the relatives of Dr. Yashwant have been informed. He is originally from Odisha, but the family lives in Kharagpur, Bengal.
Two programs were already scheduled today at IIT ISM. They were postponed after the incident. Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi was to inaugurate a multipurpose building at IIT ISM and the Jharkhand School Innovation Challenge.
