New Delhi: Retail inflation has reached a six-year low of 3.34 percent in March. Along with this, a big decline was seen in the prices of ginger, tomato, cauliflower, cumin and garlic.
According to the data of the Ministry of Finance, the price of ginger has fallen by 38.11 percent on an annual basis, while the price of tomatoes has fallen by 34.96 percent, the price of cauliflower by 25.99 percent, the price of cumin by 25.86 percent and the price of garlic by 25.22 percent.

Among the products whose prices have increased in March 2025, coconut oil was at the top with an annual increase of 56.81 percent. At the same time, the price of coconut has increased by 42.05 percent, the price of gold by 34.09 percent, the price of silver by 31.57 percent and the price of grapes by 25.55 percent.
Inflation in the health segment stood at 4.26 percent last month, up from 4.12 percent in February. Housing inflation in urban areas rose to 3.03 percent from 2.91 percent in February. Inflation in the transport and communication category rose to 3.30 percent in March 2025 from 2.93 percent in February. Inflation in the fuel and light category rose from 1.33 percent in February to 1.48 percent in March, including both rural and urban areas.

Education-related inflation rose to 3.98 percent in March from 3.83 percent in the previous month. Retail inflation declined to 4.6 percent in FY 2024-25. This is the lowest inflation figure since FY 2018-19. Food inflation has come down to 2.69 percent in March 2025 and this is the lowest level of food inflation since November 2021. During this period, the food inflation rate in rural areas was 2.82 percent, while the food inflation rate in urban areas was 2.48 percent.
