Gurrampodu, April 13: Gurrampodu SI N. Venkanna said that road accident prevention is everyone’s responsibility. He was speaking at an awareness program on road accidents organized in Palvai village of the mandal on Monday. He said that the district police department is organizing an awareness program on road accidents as part of the “Arrive Alive” program with the aim of creating awareness among the people to prevent road accidents. He said that most of the road accidents are due to negligence, speeding and lack of awareness about traffic rules. Therefore, he advised everyone to follow traffic rules, especially to get used to using helmets and seat belts. He said that the youth are losing lives due to high speed driving and parents should also educate their children about road safety.
He warned that driving under the influence of alcohol is punishable by law and strict action will be taken against such people. Similarly, motorists should have their vehicle documents properly, should not do triple riding, and should not drive while using mobile phones. He said that more awareness programs on road safety are being organized in schools, colleges, among youth and in villages with the help of village level road safety committees. Tahsildar N. Karunasri, AO Kancharla Madhavareddy, HM Vijayalakshmi, local Sarpanch Byreddy Satyanarayana, Deputy Sarpanch Manchikanti Prasad, Panchayat Secretary Saidulu, locals, auto and other motorists participated in this program.
