New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday said the new Parliament building has the fragrance of “Best India” and reflects the pride of India’s culture and civilization.
Addressing the joint meeting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the new Parliament House, President Murmu said that the last year has been one of historic achievements for the country.
This was the President’s first address in the joint meeting of both the Houses in the new Parliament House.
He said the new Parliament building was constructed at the beginning of the Amrit Kaal – the period of making India a developed country by 2047.
The President said, “It (the new Parliament House) has the fragrance of great India and reflects the glory of India’s culture and civilization. It pledges to respect our democratic and parliamentary traditions.”
The budget session of Parliament began on Wednesday and will be the last session of the current Lok Sabha as general elections are likely to be held in April-May this year.
Ahead of the budget session, the suspension of opposition MPs who were suspended for “violation of rules” during the winter session was revoked.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget on 1 February.
The budget session of Parliament will continue till 9 February.
