Tamil Nadu: Preparations for the 2026-27 budget are progressing rapidly. The state government has now entered a crucial phase of the budget-making process. In this regard, Chief Minister S. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to hold a second day of high-level meetings today. The primary purpose of these meetings is to review proposals related to various departments and determine the direction of the upcoming budget.
According to government sources, the state government is preparing to present a full budget. The budget is considering several new schemes as well as strengthening existing ones. It is believed that this time the government may also include some key election promises that have been under discussion for a long time.
According to reports, the government is seriously considering special schemes for women. The most prominent proposal is said to be providing financial assistance of Rs. 2,500 per month to women. Additionally, a plan to provide six free LPG cylinders per year is also being studied. However, a final decision has not yet been made on these two schemes, and they are currently in the review and feasibility study stage.
The government states that before implementing any new scheme, it is essential to assess its financial impact and feasibility. Therefore, detailed studies are being conducted on these proposals to ensure that the schemes do not put undue pressure on the state budget and also provide direct benefits to the public.
Continuous discussions are underway between the Finance Department and other relevant departments regarding the budget. Separate consultation meetings will be held with all departments until July 22nd. In these meetings, departments will present their proposals, plan needs, and financial demands to the government. These suggestions and reports will then be integrated into a financial document.
On July 2nd, a departmental review meeting was initiated under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vijay. The meeting reviewed the progress of various departments and assessed which schemes were being implemented effectively and which areas needed improvement. Discussions were also held on which new schemes could be prioritized in the upcoming budget.
According to government officials, transparency and departmental coordination are being emphasized in the budget preparation process this time. Detailed reports are being obtained from each department so that financial allocations can be made based on actual needs. This will ensure that resources are utilized effectively and development work is accelerated.
Experts believe that the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 will play a crucial role in determining the state’s economic direction. Therefore, the government is carefully considering every aspect. If the proposed schemes for women are implemented, they could have a major impact on the state’s social and economic structure.
At the administrative level, efforts are also being made to ensure that existing schemes are properly evaluated. Progress reports have also been requested for several schemes to understand which ones are effective and which ones require improvement.
This pre-budget process is clarifying the government’s priorities, which include social welfare, women’s empowerment, and the expansion of development schemes. Following consultation meetings that will continue until July 22nd, all reports will be finalized and the budget document will be prepared.
The Tamil Nadu government is thus moving forward to prepare a balanced and comprehensive budget for the coming fiscal year, taking into account both public needs and the state’s financial situation.
