Tamil Nadu : The Tamil Nadu government has approved the detailed project report for the extension of metro rail service from Poonamallee to Peranthur in the Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project, but the project is awaiting approval from the central government.
The second phase of the Chennai Metro Rail project is 116.1 km long. While work is in full swing from Madhavaram – Siruseri Chipkot, Lighthouse – Poonamallee Workshop and Madhavaram – Sholinganallur, the Tamil Nadu government announced a new metro rail project to connect the new airport to be built in Peranthur.
Lighthouse clarification – The Metro Railway Administration submitted a detailed project report to the Tamil Nadu government on March 12 to extend the Poonamallee Metro project to Peranthur by 53 km, and the Tamil Nadu government has approved it.
The project, to be implemented in two phases, will be implemented in the first phase from Poonamallee to Sunguvarchatram for a distance of 27.9 km at a cost of Rs 8,779 crore. 14 elevated railway stations will be constructed in this.
Route: The extension project starting from Poonamallee will extend over a distance of 27.45 km via Nazarethpettai, Chembarambakkam, Kuthambakkam Bus Terminal, Samathuvapuram, Chettipedu, Thandalam, Irungattukottai Chipkot, Pennalur, Sriperumbudur, Pattunul Chatram, Irungulam Industrial Estate, Mambakkam, Thirumangalam to Sunguvar Chatram. 14 railway stations will be constructed.
In the second phase of the project, 6 railway stations will be constructed from Sunguvarchatram to Chandavelur, Pillaichathram, Neeravalur, City Side Station, Paranthur Airport Terminal 1 and Paranthur Airport Terminal 2.
In the 25 km Poonamallee-Paranthur Phase II project, which will be completed at a cost of Rs. 4 elevated railway stations and 2 underground railway stations will be built at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore.
Central government approval… Regarding this, Metro Railway officials said, ‘The total cost of this project is Rs 15,000 crore and the work of this project is planned to be completed by 2030. This project will be useful because people coming from Kanchipuram, which is near Paranthoor, will also use this route.
Not only this, but since the government is trying to turn Kuthambakkam Bus Terminal into the most important railway station in Chennai, the people of Chennai are also likely to get more benefits from this project.
