Pollachi Jayaraman files case: YouTube channels given time to respond

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai High Court has ordered YouTube channels to respond to a case filed by former Tamil Nadu Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman, seeking damages of Rs 1 crore for their involvement in the Pollachi sexual assault incident.

The Coimbatore Special Women’s Court recently sentenced 9 people to life imprisonment in the case of sexual assault of college girls and women in Pollachi.

In this case, Pollachi Jayaraman and her son Praveen Jayaraman filed a petition in the Chennai High Court seeking a ban on the YouTube channels that made derogatory comments against them and demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore. When the matter came up for hearing before Justice Kumaresh Babu on Thursday, the YouTube channels were asked to file a reply.

Accepting this, the judge ordered the filing of the reply petition by June 12 and adjourned the hearing for the same day. The judge also advised both the parties not to pursue the case further till then.
