Agartala: Tripura’s CPI(M) leader and Politburo member, Jitendra Chaudhury, claimed on Saturday that the ruling party in Tripura is thriving due to a political strategy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he alleged would ruin the state’s future.
The CPI(M) leader claimed, “The BJP has realized that it can never come to power through elections. Therefore, they have inducted anti-social elements into their ranks to destabilize the state. In recent times, we have seen pictures of nine out of ten people involved in NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) cases with Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Biplab Kumar Deb, or other state leaders. They are engaged in all sorts of illegal activities.”
According to him, if elections were held, not even two percent of the permanently appointed candidates would win.
He alleged, “In the last seven years of the 25-year rule, for example, some people have amassed immense wealth. They have accumulated so much money that even their neighbors are astonished. Inquiries have been made in every locality, and it has been found that membership in a particular organization has increased significantly, even though its members are not involved in any high-paying jobs.”
Accusing the Chief Minister and top BJP leaders of providing political patronage, he said, “People are preparing to teach the BJP a lesson. In a democracy, the people’s voice is paramount, and we are waiting for the day when the BJP will face a historic downfall in Tripura, which is inevitable and approaching rapidly.”
The CPI(M) leader was speaking at the state conference of the All India Democratic Women’s Association.
