JORHAT: Assam Director General of Police GP Singh on Tuesday ordered a probe into the death of a man who was questioned in connection with the recent grenade blast in the state’s Jorhat district. Assam DGP GP Singh said in a post on The Assam DGP said the IGP will investigate the Eastern Range incident, including the procedural part, analysis of CCTV footage of the police station, contents of the medical examination report at the time of release after interrogation, etc. “Reference to the suicidal death of Dipankar Gogoi@tiseng of Titabor Jorhat a day after inquiry related to the recent grenade blast in Jorhat – @assampolice HQ has ordered an investigation by IGP Eastern Range including the procedural part of the incident. ” Singh said, “To analyze the CCTV footage of the police station, the contents of the medical examination report at the time of release after interrogation, etc.”
He further said that the state police is committed to following the procedures laid down in law while taking action against criminal and terrorist activities.
Gogoi, a resident of Birinasayek Garikuri village of Titabor in Jorhat district, committed suicide near his house on Tuesday.
Later the police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital for post-mortem.
Gogoi was picked up by police after a blast near an army camp in Jorhat on December 14. However, there were no casualties in the incident.
