Police launched cordon and search operation in rural areas of Amritsar

On the instructions of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, police today launched cordon and search operation (CASO) in various parts of the holy city and rural areas.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Mohnish Chawla and SSP Satinder Singh led the operation in the rural area. Hundreds of policemen today conducted CASO action in Shekhupura locality of Jandiala Guru and Dharad village, Rajasansi, Chogwan, Majitha and Ajnala of Lopoke.

The search operation began at 8 am and ended around 2 pm. During the operation, the rural police registered nine FIRs, including six under the NDPS Act, and arrested 10 people.

In the operation, drug money of Rs 1.32 lakh and 620 grams of heroin were seized. Police have recovered a truck and Bolero engaged in illegal sand excavation. Two declared criminals were arrested during the operation. Police also arrested a person with banned synthetic kite flying string.

Apart from six NDPS cases, one case each of Excise Act, attempt to murder and violation of government orders (IPC section 188) was registered today.

ADGP Mohnish Chawla and SSP Satinder Singh said that CASO has been launched across Punjab. He said senior police officers were deputed to lead such operations.

The search operation in the holy city was led by Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. The city police seized five motorcycles, recovered six mobile phones and detained three suspects for further investigation. The police took 11 preventive actions and recovery was also made under the Excise Act.
