Police arrests TDP MLA amid protests in Andhra’s Prakasam

Amaravati (IANS) | Tension gripped Kondapi constituency in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district after local TDP MLA was arrested by the police on Monday. YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders and workers tried to gherao the residence of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy in Nayudupalem over corruption allegations. He demanded action against the MLA alleging irregularities in the construction of toilets during the previous TDP rule.

A large number of YSRCP functionaries reached the party office in Tanguttur before the march to the MLA’s house. Around 350 policemen have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, TDP leaders tried to gherao Ashok Babu’s house in Tanguttur protesting YSRCP’s action. A large number of TDP supporters led by the MLA were marching towards the YSRCP leader’s house. Police stopped them on Highway No. 16, following which TDP supporters staged a strong protest.

To register the protest, the MLA along with his supporters sat on the highway. There was a scuffle between the protesters and the police. Amid tension, the police took the MLA into custody and made him sit in a police vehicle.

Police also arrested YSRCP leader Ashok Babu and intensified patrolling in the area to prevent any disturbance.
