PMK leader Dr Anbumani Ramadoss: SIPCOT necessary in Dharmapuri to stop migration

Dharmapuri: PMK leader Dr Anbumani Ramadoss urged the Tamil Nadu government to take initiative to bring Tamil Nadu State Industries Promotion Corporation Limited (SIPCOT) to Dharmapuri and develop the industrial corridor.

Addressing the press on Monday, Anbumani said, “Dharmapuri district is one of the most backward districts of Tamil Nadu, it has been neglected despite its development potential. More than five lakh people, despite being land owners, are working as laborers in other states. Tamil Nadu government should bring SIPCOT in the district which will generate jobs.”

Speaking further about the Cauvery Surplus Water Scheme, he said, “Last month the PMK had protested demanding the implementation of the scheme. Despite this the government is sitting silent. This shows their reluctance to help the people of Dharmapuri.” He warned that if the government remained silent, the situation could turn into a large-scale law and order problem.

Speaking about the Global Investors Meet he said, “Global Investors Meet has been organized several times over the years. Instead of just signing MoUs, the government should ensure that these companies are brought here. Over the years, many companies have signed MoUs but not all have established their companies here.

Commenting on the now closed Sterlite copper smelter plant in Thoothukudi, he said, “Sterlite can actually provide employment to thousands of people. However, the impact of reopening the unit could potentially cause irreparable illnesses and death to people. Sterlite should not be opened. Anbumani also urged the Tamil Nadu government to conduct a caste survey in Tamil Nadu.
