PMK leader Anbumani demands strict action against rising alcohol and drug crimes

Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu’s Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani has appealed to the state government to take strict measures to prevent crimes arising from the increasing circulation of alcohol and cannabis. He stated that the situation is becoming serious and requires action on a “war footing” to control it.
In a statement, Anbumani cited a recent tragic incident in Salem district. He stated that three people, including student Gokul and two of his classmates, were drinking alcohol near the Seelanayakanpatti area of Salem. A dispute allegedly erupted over caste-related remarks, which later escalated into a serious altercation.
According to the statement, Gokul was stabbed to death by three men in the altercation. It has also emerged that the accused recorded the entire attack on video, further escalating the situation.
Ambumani stated that this incident indicates that the illegal trade of alcohol and drugs, such as marijuana, is rapidly increasing in the state and is fueling violence in society. He alleged that drug abuse is affecting the youth and increasing crime.
He appealed to the state government to take strict measures to completely ban the alcohol and drug trade, keeping in mind the future of the youth. He stated that general administrative measures alone are not sufficient; rather, strong and decisive action is required to eradicate this problem.
This incident has once again sparked debate about law and order and drug-related crimes in the state. Opposition leaders and social organizations are also expressing concern over such incidents.
Ambumani stated that if strict action is not taken in time, such crimes could increase, further deepening the atmosphere of insecurity in society. He urged the government to take effective action by formulating a concrete policy in this regard.
