Jharkhand : The monsoon has become fully active once again. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert predicting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes across 17 districts of the state, including Ranchi. The department has advised people to remain vigilant during adverse weather conditions and to step out of their homes only if necessary.
According to the Meteorological Department, moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal and an active monsoon system are likely to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to several parts of the state over the next 24 hours. There is also a possibility of lightning strikes accompanied by strong winds in some areas. Persistent rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and potential landslides in hilly regions.
Heavy Rain Alert for These Districts
The 17 districts for which the IMD has issued an alert include Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Chatra, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Deoghar, and Dumka. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and the likelihood of lightning strikes have been predicted for these districts.
IMD’s Advisory for the Public
The Meteorological Department has urged citizens to avoid standing in open fields or under trees and electricity poles during bad weather. People are advised to stay inside safe buildings during heavy rain or lightning. It is also recommended to avoid traversing waterlogged roads and to stay away from riverbanks and streams unnecessarily.
Motorists have also been advised to exercise extra caution. They are urged to drive slowly due to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions caused by the rain. Farmers in rural areas have been requested to plan their agricultural activities while keeping the weather conditions in mind.
Administration on High Alert
In view of the anticipated heavy rainfall, the district administration and the Disaster Management Department have also been instructed to remain alert. Teams from the concerned departments have been kept ready to handle emergencies such as waterlogging, uprooted trees, or power supply disruptions.
According to weather experts, intermittent rainfall is likely to continue in several parts of the state over the next few days due to an active monsoon. In light of this, people are advised to follow official warnings from the Meteorological Department and instructions from the local administration.
