PM Modi inaugurates 15 airport projects worth Rs 9,800 crore
New Delhi : New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of a series of ambitious airport projects across India, the total cost of which is more than Rs 9,800 crore. PM Modi inaugurated 12 new terminal buildings at key locations including Pune, Kolhapur, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Delhi, Lucknow, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Moradabad, Shravasti and Adampur airports at an event.
Apart from this, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of three new terminal buildings at Cuddapah, Hubli and Belagavi airports. PM Modi said the Gwalior terminal was completed in just 16 months, which shows the government’s commitment to efficient project execution.
Responding to allegations of election strategy, PM Modi said, “This initiative will make air travel easy and accessible for the common citizens of the country.” PM Modi said that the government’s record in completing the announced projects on time rejects the allegations of these projects being election gimmicks.
Reiterating his dedication towards making a developed India, PM Modi said, “People are seeing that Modi is made of different clay. I am continuously working to make a developed India.” PM Modi said that along with airport projects, investments are also being made in highways, railways, education, water and environment.
The inauguration of these projects is expected to provide a significant boost to the civil aviation sector. The 12 new terminal buildings will collectively have the capacity to serve 620 lakh passengers annually, while the three terminals under construction will add an additional 95 lakh passengers annually when completed. These terminal buildings have state-of-the-art passenger amenities and are also equipped with various amenities like double insulated roofing system, provision of canopy for energy saving, LED lighting etc. The designs of these airports are influenced by the heritage structures of that state and city, reflecting the local culture and heritage of the region.
