Agra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the six-kilometre long ‘Priority Corridor’ of the Agra Metro Rail service between Taj East Gate and Mankameshwar on Wednesday. With the launch, Agra city will become the 21st city in the country and the sixth in Uttar Pradesh to be connected to the metro rail network. The metro service is set to serve Agra’s 26 lakh residents and approximately 60 lakh tourists who visit the city annually. Agra Metro consists of two corridors, with a total length of 29.4 km, which will connect major railway stations, bus depots, colleges, markets and major tourist destinations.
Metro rail services are already operational in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Now, Agra, the state’s fourth most populous city, is also set to join the list. Project officials said the inauguration of the Agra Metro Rail service reflects the country’s commitment to promoting sustainable urban development, improving connectivity and enhancing the overall quality of life for its citizens.
