Wayanad: PM Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of landslide-affected areas in Wayanad, Kerala. He reached Kannur airport by a special plane at 11 am. Here he was welcomed by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Modi reached Wayanad from Kannur by an Indian Air Force helicopter at 11:15 am. On the way, he conducted an aerial survey of landslide-affected Choorlamala, Mundakkai and Punchirimattam villages. He also saw the place from where the devastation started. This is where the Iruvazhinji Puzha river starts.
Modi’s helicopter landed at a school in Kalpetta, Wayanad, from where he went to the landslide-affected areas by road. Modi will take information about the rescue operation there. Then he will meet landslide victims and survivors in relief camps and hospitals.
After this, the Prime Minister will hold a meeting with the officials, where he will be informed about the accident and rescue operation. Union Minister Suresh Gopi has also gone to Wayanad with the PM.
Rahul thanked the PM for his visit to Wayanad
Leader of Opposition and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi has thanked PM Modi for his visit to Wayanad. He wrote on X – PM’s decision to visit Wayanad is good. I am confident that when the Prime Minister sees the devastation caused by the landslide himself, he will declare it a national disaster. Rahul has demanded in Parliament to declare the Wayanad accident a national disaster.
So far, more than 400 people have died in the landslide that occurred in Wayanad on July 30. More than 138 people are still missing. After running a rescue operation for 9 days, the army returned from Wayanad on August 8. Currently NDRF is running the rescue operation.
