Phagwara: A special meeting was held today at Phagwara Civil Hospital with the aim of increasing awareness about prevention and control of dengue and malaria. The meeting was organized by Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr. Lahinbar Ram in collaboration with Medical Laboratory Association, Phagwara. During the meeting, Dr. Ram stressed on the increased risk of dengue and malaria during monsoon season when stagnant water in roads and drains becomes breeding grounds for mosquitoes. He highlighted the importance of eliminating stagnant water sources and applying oil to prevent mosquito breeding. The SMO also recommended observing “Dry Day” every week, especially on Fridays, promoted by the Health Department.
On this day, residents are encouraged to empty and dry all water containers to reduce the risk of mosquito breeding. Health Inspectors Balihar Singh and Gurmej Singh gave information about the symptoms of dengue and malaria, such as fever with chills, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle pain, red rashes on the body and bleeding from the nose or mouth. He urged people to immediately seek medical help if they notice these symptoms. Dr Ram appealed to laboratory managers to cooperate with the health department in preventing the spread of vector-borne diseases. Health inspectors Balihar Chand, Gurmej Singh, Harvinder Mahimi, Anu Sohi and Medical Laboratory Association president Dr MP Singh, besides other members including Dhalwinder Raj, Gaurav Chopra, Sarabjit Singh, Sukhwinder Pal and Sandeep Kumar were present in the meeting.
