Petition seeking quashing of case against Poovai Jaganmoorthy, Additional DGP Jayaraman dismissed

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai High Court has dismissed a petition seeking quashing of the case against MLA Poovai Jaganmoorthy, Additional DGP Jayaraman, and others.
Dhanush, a resident of Kalambakkam in Tiruvallur district, and Vijayashree, a resident of Theni, fell in love and married. Vijayashree’s parents were against the marriage. Vijayashree’s father and others, who went to Dhanush’s house to look for their daughter, kidnapped a boy, a relative of Dhanush, from Dhanush’s house in a car. They then left the boy in the Meenambakkam area.
Based on a complaint from Dhanush’s mother, police filed a case against Puratchi Bharatam Party MLA Poovai Jaganmoorthy, Additional DGP Jayaraman, the girl’s father Vanaraja, and former police assistant inspector Maheshwari, among others, for their involvement in the kidnapping.
A settlement has been reached between the two parties. Following this, three individuals, including Vanraj, filed a petition in the Chennai High Court seeking the dismissal of the case. When the case came up for hearing before Judge G. Jayachandran on Friday, Additional Criminal Advocate K.M.D. Mukhilan, representing the police, stated that the accused in the case included an MLA and an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). The allegations in this human trafficking case are very serious. Dismissing the case now on the grounds of a compromise would set a bad precedent and erode public trust in the police and judiciary. Therefore, he argued that the case should not be dismissed and that more time should be granted to complete the investigation.
Following this, the petitioner stated that they would withdraw the petition. The judge accepted the request and dismissed the petition.
