People have rejected Congress’ politics, says PM Modi

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his attack on the Congress party on Sunday, saying that the people of India have rejected the opposition party and its politics.

Participating in the foundation stone laying ceremony of a major elevated corridor for wildlife protection in Kaziranga, Assam, PM Modi said, “The Congress party has been uprooted from Maharashtra in the recent municipal elections, and the opposition party has suffered a massive defeat. The Congress once ruled the western state for a long time; however, voters have rejected its politics because the Congress has no developmental agenda for the people of this country.”

The Prime Minister said that people’s trust in the BJP has increased in the last one and a half years. “Despite ruling Bihar for 30 years, voters have once again reposed their trust in the BJP with a landslide victory in the recent state elections. In Kerala, the BJP performed well in local body elections, and now has a BJP mayor in Thiruvananthapuram. This reflects the growing public trust in the BJP’s governance model,” he said. PM Modi said that people want good governance, and the BJP is providing it to citizens. He said, “The BJP’s governance model maintains our age-old traditions while fostering development. We have shown that the economy and ecology can progress together. The massive plan to build an elevated corridor at a cost of approximately ₹6,000 crore will not only protect wild animals but will also have a positive impact on the local economy.”

Attacking the Congress party over rhino poaching, the Prime Minister said, “One-horned rhinos are the country’s greatest wealth; however, during Congress rule in the state, we saw a rise in rhino poaching cases. The BJP government, when it came to power, promised to stop one-horned rhinos poaching, and we have been very successful in this. In 2025, zero rhino poaching was recorded in Assam.”

PM Modi also took a dig at the Congress party on the issue of infiltration, saying, “Congress supported infiltrators to occupy the land of the indigenous people of Assam, but the BJP’s double-engine government is working tirelessly to free the state from infiltrators.”

The Prime Minister said that the people of Bihar rejected the Congress party’s politics in the last assembly elections, and the opposition party suffered a massive defeat in the eastern state. He said, “I am confident that the Congress will see a similar result in Assam in the upcoming assembly elections.”

Notably, PM Modi on Sunday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a major infrastructure initiative worth over ₹6,950 crore.

The 86-km project, officially the four-laning of the Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of NH-715, is designed as an environmentally sensitive national highway project. It includes a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor through Kaziranga National Park, a 21-km bypass, and 30-km widening of the existing highway.

The project will improve connectivity in Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts, ensuring free movement of wildlife and reducing human-animal conflict.

During the programme, the Prime Minister also flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains – Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak and Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) services – which will strengthen rail connectivity between the Northeast and North India.
