Punjab: Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar defeated Zarkhar Academy, Ludhiana 5-0 in the inaugural match of Dashmesh Hawks All India Hockey Festival. LPU player Jaspreet Singh scored the first goal of the match by scoring a field goal in the 18th minute. Aman Thakur (40th minute) and Gursewak Singh (50th minute) extended the lead from penalty corners. Tushar and Suraj scored two field goals in the 54th and 58th minutes respectively to make the score 5-0. 12 teams from the region are participating in the Hockey Festival. During the event, the Punjab Police Band entertained the audience with its performance. BSF Jalandhar won the title last time by defeating Zarkhar Academy, Ludhiana. General Secretary Advocate SS Saini and Secretary Jasbir Singh Rai said, “Players from the region play with enthusiasm in this hockey tournament. A large number of people come daily to watch these matches. The final match will be played on November 24.” He said Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang today gave a grant of Rs 5 lakh for the construction of boundary wall around the ground. Rupnagar MLA Dinesh Chaddha, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain and other officials were present at the inauguration.
