Pegu also highlighted the significance of Raimona as the world’s only habitat for the critically endangered golden langur, which is found in the hills of the western region of Assam and neighbouring Bhutan. Meanwhile, the Assam government has played a vital role in the conservation of the species, especially by declaring Raimona as a national park in 2021. Minister Pegu also appreciated the leadership role of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patwari in this initiative. During his visit to Raimona, Pegu enjoyed gypsy safari and nature walks and expressed his happiness over the experience. “The experience was really amazing,” Pegu said, adding that he was able to get up close and personal with a group of golden langurs, as well as several species of birds and mammals.
