Patiala: Case filed against wife and in-laws in suicide case

Punjab: After a man committed suicide in Patiala district, Punjab, police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against his wife and some members of his in-laws. The incident has become a topic of discussion in the area, and the police have launched an investigation. According to the police, the deceased man’s body was recently recovered from his home. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been under mental stress for some time. Family members alleged that domestic disputes and constant pressure from his in-laws led to his extreme step. Following the incident, the family filed a police complaint, leveling serious allegations against the wife and some members of the in-laws’ family. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

A police officer stated, “We received a complaint that the deceased was being continuously mentally harassed. Given the seriousness of the matter, an FIR has been registered and all aspects are being investigated.” He added that the post-mortem report and call details are also being examined to uncover the truth. The deceased’s family says he had been suffering from family stress for a long time. They allege that domestic disputes had affected his mental balance. They have demanded justice and appealed for strict action against the culprits. Meanwhile, the accused party has denied these allegations. They say they are being framed in a false case and that the suicide may have been caused by personal problems, not family disputes.
Experts say that suicide cases often involve multiple factors, including mental health, family stress, and social pressure. They also stated that in such cases, the police should conduct an impartial investigation into all aspects to uncover the true cause. The police stated that the investigation is ongoing and statements are being recorded from all concerned. If the allegations are found to be true, further legal action will be taken. Local residents have expressed grief over the incident and said that dialogue and resolution should be the first priority in such cases so that no one is forced to take such extreme steps.
