Patna: The body of a 13-year-old eighth-grade student was found hanging from a tree in a cashew orchard in Giridhina village, under the Patna police jurisdiction of Keonjhar district, on Sunday morning.
Police recovered the body and registered a case of unnatural death. The deceased girl has been identified as Lisa Majhi, daughter of the late Sanjay Majhi of Jajang village, under the Bamebari police jurisdiction.
According to police, the minor girl was staying at the home of her sister-in-law’s father, Pitambar Majhi, while studying at Sarsakola Upper Primary School.
Family members reported that she was behaving normally on Sunday morning and had fetched water for cooking before the incident occurred.
Locals said that Pitambar had planned to marry her to his son, Balram Majhi, after she attained adulthood.
It is reported that a community meeting was held earlier regarding this matter.
The circumstances of the girl’s death are not yet clear, and police have termed the case as suspicious. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Patana police station, and an investigation is underway under the supervision of ASI Gaurhari Garadia.
Patana police station officer-in-charge Kiran Prasad Sahu said that preliminary investigations suggest it is a case of suicide.
