Parliament is made of constitutional values, not of bricks of ego: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi (IANS) | Congress leader Rahul Gandhi again hit out at the Center for not inviting President Draupadi Murmu to the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building, saying “Parliament is not made of the bricks of arrogance but of constitutional values”. His remarks came after 19 parties, including the Congress, on Wednesday announced to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28.

Not allowing the President to inaugurate nor invite him to the inauguration ceremony is an insult to the country’s top constitutional post, Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi. Parliament is not made of bricks of ego but of constitutional values.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “The clarinet of ‘democracy’ should be played in the Parliament, but ever since the self-proclaimed Vishwaguru has arrived, the cannon of ‘monopoly’ is being fired.” Change the intention, not the building!

Earlier in the day, 19 like-minded parties issued a joint statement saying, “When there is no soul in the Parliament House, we see no value in the new building” and announced our collective decision to boycott its inauguration. We do.

A war of words has broken out between the Congress and the BJP over the inauguration of the new Parliament House by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28.
