Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday removed Renuka Mishra from the post of chairperson of the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board amid allegations of leak of question paper of the constable recruitment exam.
Official sources said that after Mishra’s removal from the post, he has been put on the “waiting list” and vigilance director Rajeev Krishna has been given additional responsibility of the board.
Following allegations of paper leak, the state government on February 24 had canceled the police constable recruitment examination held on February 17 and 18 and ordered re-examination within six months.
More than 48 lakh candidates had appeared in the examination.
The government had also announced that a Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police would investigate the matter.
In a post in Hindi on Twitter, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had on February 24 said, “There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. Those who play with the hard work of the youth will not be spared under any circumstances.” “Strict action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements.”
Police arrested or detained more than 240 people across Uttar Pradesh on charges of planning or adopting unfair means before or during the police recruitment exam between February 16 and 18.
The state home department had earlier said, “Based on information and facts relating to the police recruitment examination held on February 17 and February 18, the government, keeping in mind the highest standards of sanctity and transparency, has decided to cancel the police recruitment examination held on February 17 and 18. ” examination.”
“The government has directed the recruitment board to register an FIR at the level where laxity has taken place and ensure further action.
The government has decided to get this matter investigated by STF.
“Directions have also been issued to take strict action against the guilty persons and organisation,” a statement had said.
The statement said that the re-examination will be conducted within six months and UPSRTC government buses will transport candidates to the examination centers free of cost.
On March 2, two accused involved in the police recruitment exam paper leak were arrested by STF from Vibhuti Khand area of state capital Lucknow.
The STF had said in a statement that the accused were members of a gang allegedly involved in the question paper leak of the UP Recruitment and Promotion Board examination on February 17 and 18.
Ajay Singh Chauhan and Sonu Singh Yadav, residents of Prayagraj district, were arrested.
The STF had said that their gang was also involved in arranging solvers and leaking question papers for candidates preparing for competitive exams.
It was said that several documents related to the 2024 constable recruitment exam, two mobile phones and some cash were seized from both of them.
STF has filed FIR against both of them under sections 419 (punishment for fraud by impersonation), 420 (fraud by inducement), 467 (forgery of valuable documents), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine). FIR was registered under. a forged document) and section 386 of the Indian Penal Code (extortion by putting any person in fear of death or grievous hurt) at Vibhuti Khand Police Station, Lucknow.
