‘Papa, I am fed up with life’, son calls and commits suicide
Jaipur. In Kota, a B.Tech student committed suicide by hanging himself in his room. Police said on Monday that the student was pursuing B.Com from Jalandhar, Punjab. Tech and was suffering from depression. Leaving the student alone at home, his family had gone to Lucknow on Sunday to attend a wedding ceremony. Before committing suicide, he called his father and said, “Papa, I am fed up with life.” After some time, when his family called him back, he did not pick up the phone. Later the family members called a neighbor who, after enquiry, said that his son was not opening the door.
The incident took place on Sunday in Ambedkar Nagar of Kunhadi police station area. The body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem on Monday. Kunhadi police station sub-inspector Rajaram said, “The family lives in Ambedkar Nagar. The elder son Rohit (23) was doing B.Tech from Jalandhar. He was mentally ill and was undergoing treatment for the last two-three years. On Saturday, February 17, his parents had gone to Lucknow to attend a relative’s wedding. Rohit was alone at home.
“He called his father around 4 am on Sunday and said he was fed up with his life. After some time, his father called him back but he did not answer the phone.” His father then called his neighbor who went into the house and called Rohit several times, but he did not open the door.
Rajesh Mathur, father of the deceased, said, “I immediately left Lucknow with my wife and reached Kota at 6 pm on Sunday. When I reached home, I saw Rohit hanging in his room. The police took him to MBS hospital, Where the doctor declared him dead.” Rohit’s younger brother studies in Ahmedabad. Kota, which has become famous as a coaching hub, has seen an increase in the cases of suicide of candidates of other competitive examinations including JEE and NEET in the last few years.
