PANJIM: City gets bio-methanation plant to convert wet waste into manure

Panjim: Panaji City Corporation (CCP) has commissioned a pre-treatment unit for bio-methanation plant or organic waste management facility behind Heera Petrol Pump, Panjim.

CCP has signed an agreement with Pune-based Blue Planet Yasasu Solutions Pvt Ltd, which will operate the plant. This agreement was signed last year.

Speaking to O Heraldo, an official of the plant said that wet waste is brought from the urban area, crushed, put into the digester and finally compost is prepared.

“After crushing, the wet waste is put into the digester. There are two crushers and four digesters. In future we will prepare Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) from garbage. The plant has been established but we are waiting for permission from the authorities. The capacity of the plant is to crush 15 tonnes every day but we have not been able to reach the full capacity yet. “CCP produces huge amount of waste but our capacity is only 15 tonnes.”

The official further said, “The digesters are run in shifts. Compost is produced after treating the garbage in a digester. The fertilizer is to be given to CCP Fertilizer Plant located at Patto-Panjim. However, we have not received the NOC for that. We do not have a trade license yet. Its process has partially started. We bring bacteria and the waste is processed.”

Meanwhile, the general meeting of the CCP has been called on Wednesday, January 17 at 4 pm at the Corporation Hall, Panaji. The meeting has been called after three months and the agenda includes 30 points.

The meeting is likely to approve the execution of the agreement for Pay Parking Phase III as CCP is implementing pay parking in a phased manner in the capital city. The proposal to provide parking slots for senior citizens is also likely to be approved.
