Panchkula: The district level philatelic exhibition ‘Panchpex-2024’ was inaugurated today at DAV Model School, Sector 8. The exhibition was organised by the Department of Posts to promote philately and respect for Indian culture. The event was also attended by Sanjay Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Haryana Circle, Ambala and Dr Anil Kumar Pathak, Principal of DAV Model School and Vijay Kumar, Senior Post Office Superintendent, Ambala Postal Division. Sanjay Singh encouraged visitors to view the stamps and covers that give information about Indian culture and history.
He emphasised that the aim of the Department of Posts is to educate people about the rich history and culture of the country, going beyond just issuing postage stamps. Vijay Kumar said that this was the first philatelic exhibition in Panchkula in two decades. He described visiting the district level philatelic exhibition as getting a deep penetration into Indian culture. Philatelists from Ambala and Panchkula displayed about 40 frames depicting their collections as well as culture. The exhibition included two competitive events: a philatelic design competition and a philatelic quiz.
The philatelic design competition was attended by 63 students from seven schools, divided into two age groups. The philatelic quiz involved 18 students from six schools. The results will be announced on August 30. A philatelic workshop was also held to teach students about collecting, storing and becoming a philatelist. A stall was set up to sell stamps and help visitors open philatelic accounts. A selfie point with the postman proved popular among the students. The closing ceremony of the exhibition will be held on Friday.
