Chandigarh: Over 80% polling was recorded at 17 polling stations in Panchkula Assembly Constituency and all these polling stations were in villages. The assembly constituency recorded 59.4% polling, which is almost similar to the 60.06% recorded in 2019. While residents of Asrewali village ensured the highest polling of 94.3%, Chandimandir Cantt recorded the lowest polling of 17.6%. Out of a total of 2,36,193 voters, 1,40,227 voters cast their votes at 230 polling stations in Panchkula region. The villages of Asrewali, Jaswantgarh, Toka, Shyamtu and Rattwali (West) recorded the highest participation. Out of 439 voters in Asrewali, 414 exercised their franchise. Similarly, in Jaswantgarh, 92.5% voters (445 out of total 481) cast their votes, followed by Toka where 373 out of total 409 voters turned up at the polling booth. Shyamtu and Rattewali villages recorded 88.1% and 87.6% polling respectively. Chandimandir Cantt station recorded only 17.6% polling. Out of the total 955 voters in the area, only 168 turned up to vote yesterday. Other areas with the lowest turnout were Sector 14 (north side) with a mere 30.9% polling, Sector 14 (east side) with 36.5% and Sector 20 (west side) with 37.5% polling. Local INLD leader Manoj Agarwal said booth number 82 in Chandimandir Cantt witnessed voting for the first time. Only 100 men and 68 women from the area cast their votes. The polling percentage in the constituency has remained relatively the same since Panchkula was carved out of the Kalka assembly constituency. Until the 2005 assembly elections, Panchkula remained part of the Kalka region. The region had recorded 57.59% polling in 2009, the region’s maximum was 65.72% in 2014 and 60.06% in 2019. Meanwhile, of the eight third-gender registered voters in the region, only one from the Bir Ghaggar (west side) sector voted. Kalka’s polling percentage was revised to 72.1% on Sunday. While Kalka’s turnout remained similar to what it recorded in 2019 (72.63%), 11 polling stations recorded 90% or more polling. Despite the numbers being low, voters in Gumthala ensured maximum participation with a turnout of 97.5%. Out of the 118 voters in the region, 115 voters turned out to cast their votes. Similarly, 97.2% residents of Sukhomajri, the village of independent candidate Gopal Sukhomajri, came out to vote. Only 18 voters of the village with 632 voters did not vote. Apart from these, Jalla (96.6%), Ganeshpur (93.7%), Prempura (93.5%), Bans Balu (Bhoj Matour) (92.5%) recorded the highest voter turnout. More than 90% voting was also recorded at polling stations in Khol Fatehsingh, Naggal Rutal, Majri Jatta, Janauli and Kajampur.
