Kerala: According to the Motor Vehicles Department report, the lorry that hit the cement lorry that overturned on students in Panayampadam was moving at a high speed. The Maharashtra registered lorry was moving at a high speed when it hit the cement lorry. A case of murder has been registered against the two lorry drivers who caused the accident. They have been produced in court and taken on remand. It is also suspected that the driver of the Maharashtra registered lorry was using a mobile phone at the time of the accident. Police are investigating the matter in detail. The information given by the police to the Motor Vehicles Department has indicated the use of a mobile phone. The Maharashtra registered lorry was being driven by Prajesh John, a resident of Nilambur. He suddenly applied brakes while trying to overtake a bike in front. This caused the rear of the overturned lorry to hit the front of the cement lorry coming from the opposite direction. The window of the cement lorry broke and it went out of control and overturned. The cement lorry was moving at a speed of 45 kmph.
The motor vehicle department report also said that the lorry, registered in Maharashtra, skidded when the brakes were applied due to rain and slippery surface after the accident. A case has been registered against Mahendra Prasad, the driver of the cement lorry that overturned on the children, and Prajesh, the driver of the lorry that hit the children. They were produced before the Mannarkad First Class Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded for 14 days. The driver of the lorry that hit the cement lorry has admitted his fault, police said. A joint safety inspection will be conducted in Panayampadam by the police, motor vehicle department and public works department.
Central government also misled
Palakkad ∙ Officials and contractors have also misled the central government about eliminating accidents in the Panayampadam area, where four girl students died in a truck accident. Union ministers have sent official letters to public representatives claiming that accidents have come to an end in the area, as they believe the reports they give.
Even the study reports submitted by the Motor Vehicles Department, Palakkad IIT and Natpac regarding the frequent accidents in the area were ignored. It is because of these study reports that today ministers, MLAs and officials are visiting Panayampadam to study the problems.
There are many such danger zones on Palakkad-Kozhikode National Highway 966 from Thanav to Nattukal, which were renovated under the leadership of Uralungal Labour Contract Society. However, there has been no permanent solution.
