Palanpur Municipal Chairman’s constituency overflowing with sewer, local people warned

BanaskanthaBanaskantha: Locals have been protesting for the past several days in Sukhbagh area of Palanpur city over overflowing drains and dug-up roads. Locals, who have not listened to the municipal corporation’s arrangements even after making them aware of it several times, allege that the same situation arises every monsoon. The municipality spends lakhs of rupees on pre-monsoon action. However, this situation has not changed till date. Locals said that despite having a mosque next door, people have to pass through the rising sewage water and children going to school due to the dug-up road in the area are also facing a lot of problems. However, we have given representations to the municipality several times. But till date no permanent solution to this problem has been found.

No action being taken by the municipality: A local person, fed up with the various problems of the area, said, “I have informed the municipality several times. But the municipal corporation system seems to have become fat, no steps have been taken to solve our problem. Now we are so tired that in the coming days we are in a position to do a fierce agitation or self-immolation program. We have given a representation to MP Ganiben Thakor regarding the fact that the municipal system is running like a monarchy.

Opposition leader raised the bugle of hunger strike: In this regard, the opposition leader of the municipality Ankita Thakor has also raised many questions on the functioning of the municipality, she said that this area is the constituency of the Municipal President. But, he has no attention on the situation of the area. The people here are troubled by the clogged drains and dug up roads. Although no action has been taken by the Municipal Corporation administration, if this problem is not resolved in the next 10 days, I will sit on a hunger strike, this is what the opposition leader of the Municipal Corporation Ankita Thakor has also said.

Lakhs of rupees spent on pre-monsoon operation: It is worth noting that before every monsoon, lakhs of rupees are spent by the Municipal Corporation system on pre-monsoon operation. But even today, centuries-old problems persist in many areas. Local people are also raising many questions on the pre-monsoon performance of the municipal system. However, less rain has exposed the pre-monsoon works of the municipal system. Then if there is heavy rain in the coming days, what can happen in the lower areas. It is beyond imagination.
