Census to begin in four states from December 1.
Uttar Pradesh: Significant information regarding the 2027 Census process has emerged. Following Ladakh, the population enumeration process is now set to begin in four additional states. The census process will commence on December 1, 2026, in parts of Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. This campaign will continue until January 4, 2027.
The government has decided to initiate the census process early in these regions, keeping in mind the states where assembly elections are likely to be held early next year. According to officials, preparations are underway to complete the population enumeration in these states within the stipulated timeframe.
Enumeration to Begin Early in Election-Bound States
Typically, the census process takes place across the entire country according to a set schedule; however, this time, it is being initiated earlier in certain states. The primary reason cited for this is the likelihood of assembly elections taking place next year.
Given the election-related activities in parts of Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, the census work will be undertaken on a priority basis. This will help ensure better coordination between administrative preparations and the electoral process.
Process Already Underway in Ladakh
Earlier, the 2027 Census process was initiated in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The census work was started early there due to the region’s unique geographical conditions.
Now, with the process commencing in four additional states, this is considered a significant step toward advancing the census campaign nationwide.
