Tamil Nadu: Similarly, the Public Health Department has directed all primary health centers in Tamil Nadu to have a structure ready for dehydration treatment.
For the assembly elections, 75,064 polling booths have been set up across the state. Chennai alone has 4,085 polling booths. All basic amenities necessary for voters have been provided there. In view of the heat, shade tents are also being set up where voters have to stand in line, if needed.
On the other hand, the Health Department has directed mobile medical teams and 108 ambulances to be ready for medical services. Accordingly, vehicles equipped with life-saving medical facilities have been parked near polling booths.
The Election Commission has decided to provide ORS solution to the elderly and those with co-morbidities to prevent dehydration during voting. Several lakh ORS packets have been purchased for this purpose. Regarding this, Health Department officials said:
While the Election Commission has made medical preparations, the state Public Health Department has placed all medical facilities on standby. Specifically, we have created facilities for treating dehydration in 2,336 primary health centers and 9,355 sub-health centers across the state.
They stated that sufficient doctors, nurses, and staff are on duty. They also stated that adequate medicines are in stock.
