The Opposition on Friday demanded the resignation of Art and Culture Minister Govind Gowde over the allegation of misuse of funds leveled against him by Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.
Saying that the allegation is of serious nature, Goa Forward Party (GFP) president and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai also demanded an independent investigation into the matter.
“The allegations of scam in the Department of Arts and Culture and misuse of funds by the Minister should be viewed with utmost seriousness. Sardesai said, “I am innocent as I myself have raised this issue many times.”
“The government should immediately launch a comprehensive and independent investigation into the matter. Sardesai said, due to the sharp comments of the presiding officer of the assembly, the position of the minister has now become untenable and I demand that Gowde should step down and face investigation.
Opposition leader Yuri Alemao said that a day after Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai praised the government for zero tolerance towards corruption, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar made it public by accusing Arts and Culture Minister Govind Gowde of fraud. done. “Do I need to talk more about corruption and fraud,” Alemao asked.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar said, “When Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar has alleged that Gowde is involved in the scam, the BJP should act. This may be the first case in which a president has exposed a member of his own party.
