Jaipur (IANS) | A passenger smuggling 1.44 kg gold at Jaipur International Airport has been detained and sent to jail. The cost of gold is said to be around Rs 71 lakh. Officials have given this information on Saturday. According to officials, the gold was brought to Jaipur by an Air Arabia flight. The accused smuggler is originally from Rajasthan and has been frequently traveling abroad. The smuggler had hidden the gold plating in his innerwear and shoes.
According to customs officials, a passenger landed at Jaipur airport on Air Arabia flight number G9435 from Sharjah on May 26. The team received information about smuggling of gold and the smuggler was detained in the airport premises.
When the accused denied smuggling of gold, the Customs officers examined the accused and his belongings. During scanning, gold paste weighing 1.44 kg was found hidden in the sole of the shoes and undergarments of the accused.
Customs officials said that the accused is originally from Shekhawati. The accused had traveled abroad in the past as well. Since he failed to give any satisfactory answer, he was produced before the court, from where he was sent to jail.
