Antalya: In the prestigious Archery World Cup Stage-1 tournament, Indian young archer Jyoti Surekha shone brightly. On Saturday, she showed excellent performance in different categories and bagged two gold medals. In the women’s individual compound final, Jyoti won a memorable victory over Sarah Lopez (Colombia) by 149-146. This is Surekha’s first gold in the megatournament. Vijayawada Archer, who advanced by giving tough competition to the opponents from the league stage, showed the same aggressiveness in the final as well. Surekha took the latest revenge for her defeat at the hands of Lopez exactly two years ago.
It can be understood how this young archer’s momentum continued if he dropped three points to his opponents in both the semis and the final. She showed a clear lead from the first round and scored key points. Lopez tried to recover but Surekha was already in a better lead. On the other hand, in the mixed compound final, the pair of Surekha and Ojas Devtale scored a sensational victory over the Chinese Taipei duo with a margin of 159-154. Jyoti scored 10 points eight times while Ojas was restricted to 9 points once. With this, the world record (160/160) was broken by a point difference. This is the second yellow medal for India in the compound category.
