Olympic mindset: Anand Mahindra praises 99-year-old swimmer

Paris: Anand Mahindra lauded 99-year-old swimmer Betty Brussel and compared her to the young athletes participating in the Paris Olympics 2024. “We enjoyed watching the young, powerful athletes competing in Paris. But here is Betty Brussel at the age of 99. So as the Games in Paris come to an end, this clip reminds us that it is even more powerful to have a lifelong ‘Olympic mindset’…” Mahindra posted on Twitter. According to a report in the Guardian, Betty Brussel was born in Holland in 1924 and started learning swimming with her siblings in the canals near Amsterdam. Brussel moved to Canada in 1959 with her husband Gerrit, settling outside the Canadian city of Grand Forks. Brussel began her competitive swimming journey in the mid-sixties, when she participated in the British Columbia Senior Games, the report said. His coach Stanley Wilson praised him and said that Brussel’s inexhaustible energy has become an inspiration for others, the report said. Anand Mahindra is known for praising different talents on social media. Earlier, he had praised Neeraj Chopra for winning a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw event. He also praised gold medallist Arshad Nadeem for his record-breaking achievements and appreciated his friendly behaviour with Neeraj Chopra.
