Chandigarh (IANS) | Former Indian hockey captain and Olympian Pargat Singh on Friday supported the protesting wrestlers demanding arrest and registration of a police case against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Olympic Association President P.T. criticized Usha’s remarks. Pargat Singh attacked all those sportsmen and women who themselves have gone through such situations, but still remain dumb spectators. No one will come out on the streets unless he is severely instigated and harassed, he said.
He said, this is a very serious matter. A sportsperson knows how tough it is to reach the national and international level. And if this kind of exploitation of athletes happens at the highest level, then it is not possible to hang your head in shame and be a part of that sports administration.
The first woman Olympian to become the President of the Indian Olympic Association, P.T. Taking a dig at Usha, Pargat Singh said, it is very disturbing to give up and leave your own profession. One should not forget what the game has got him.
Pargat Singh, a three-time MLA, said in a statement that defending and standing by his fellow sportspersons is more ethical and demanding. The agitating wrestlers are not creating indiscipline, but are out to clean up the litter and filth from Indian sports. They are fighting a great battle to be clean, neat and with dignity.
