Odisha’s road network gets a major boost, with over Rs 769 crore approved under CRIF

Odisha: In a major step to strengthen Odisha’s road and infrastructure, the central government has approved over ₹769 crore for 10 road projects in the 2026-27 fiscal year under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) initiative, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.

The Chief Minister stated in a social media post that the central government’s approval aims to strengthen infrastructure and accelerate development in the state. He stated that these projects will play a vital role in improving road connectivity, especially in remote and rural areas of Odisha.

According to Majhi, several important projects will be completed with this funding. Two new flyovers will be constructed in Berhampur city, including the Tata Benz Square and Giri Road Junction in the Silk City area. These flyovers are expected to ease traffic congestion and facilitate commuting in the city.

Additionally, development work will be undertaken on the Semiliguda-Handiput Road and the Lamtaput-Machkund Road in Koraput district. The improvement of these roads is expected to significantly improve connectivity in tribal and rural areas.

The widening of the Umarkot-Chandahandi-Malgaon Road in Nabarangpur district and the Khariar-Amodi-Beltukri Road in Nuapada are also part of this project. This will boost transportation and business activities in these areas.

The Chief Minister also announced that several road projects will be initiated in Jharsuguda district under the CRIF fund. In Gajapati district, the Ramgiri-Jirung-Narayanpur Road and the Adaba-Paniganda Road will be widened.

Steps will also be taken to develop the Jaleswar-Batagram-Chandaneshwar Road in Balasore district, which is expected to boost transportation and tourism in the coastal areas.

The government believes that these projects will improve connectivity between various parts of the state and boost economic development. Expressing gratitude to the central government, the Chief Minister stated that this decision is crucial for Odisha’s overall development.

After completion, these projects will not only improve the state’s transportation system but also reduce the distance between rural and urban areas. This will also facilitate local people’s access to employment, business, and services.
