Odisha Vehicle Registrations Rise to 8.94 Lakh in 2025; 68,325 Vehicles Added in 2026 So Far 68,000

Odisha has entered 2026 with continued momentum in vehicle registrations, indicating that the upward trend seen over the past few years has carried forward into the current year. As per the VAHAN Public Dashboard, the state has already recorded 68,325 vehicle registrations in 2026 so far, along with 2,70,239 vehicle-related transactions, pointing to sustained activity levels early in the year.
Looking at the full-year comparison, 2025 marked a strong year for vehicle additions in Odisha. Statewide figures show that 8,94,116 vehicles were registered in 2025, compared with 8,11,045 vehicles in 2024. This represents a net addition of 83,071 vehicles year on year, with the growth rate improving to 10.24 percent in 2025 from 9.62 percent in 2024, reflecting steady and broad-based expansion.
Transaction activity linked to vehicle services also remained on an upward trajectory. Odisha recorded 28,18,196 transactions in 2025, up from 27,04,357 transactions in 2024, translating into an increase of 1,13,839 transactions. The transaction growth rate edged up to 4.21 percent from 4.17 percent a year earlier, signalling consistent operational throughput across transport offices.
A closer look at the vehicle category mix in 2025 shows that growth continues to be driven by personal mobility. Two-wheelers (non-transport) dominated new registrations with 7,14,366 units, highlighting their role as the primary mode of transport across Odisha. This was followed by light motor vehicles (non-transport) at 1,04,405 units, a category that primarily represents private car registrations, including personal cars and utility vehicles used for non-commercial purposes. On the commercial side, three-wheelers (transport) recorded 25,607 registrations, reflecting sustained demand for last-mile passenger and goods movement. Freight activity was supported by light goods vehicles, such as pickup vans and small delivery trucks, which saw 19,879 registrations, while heavy goods vehicles, including large trucks and multi-axle cargo carriers used for long-haul transport, accounted for 11,832 registrations. Light passenger vehicles, including taxis and small contract carriage vehicles, added 10,594 units during the year.
The concentration of vehicle registrations remains heavily tilted towards the capital. When data from Bhubaneswar RTO-1 and Bhubaneswar RTO-2 are combined, the city clearly emerges as the largest vehicle registration hub in Odisha. Bhubaneswar accounted for 1,47,988 vehicle registrations in 2025, compared with 1,37,185 registrations in 2024, reflecting an increase of 10,803 vehicles over the year and reinforcing its position as the state’s primary growth engine.
Transaction volumes in Bhubaneswar also remained high. The combined transaction count for both RTOs stood at 3,98,677 in 2025, up from 3,92,407 in 2024. While one RTO reported a marginal dip, stronger growth at the second RTO ensured a net increase, underlining sustained service demand in the capital region.
In contrast, Boudh recorded the lowest vehicle registrations among the regions reflected in the VAHAN data. The district registered 5,310 vehicles in 2025, up from 4,636 vehicles in 2024, marking an increase of 674 vehicles and a growth rate of 14.54 percent. However, transaction volumes in Boudh dipped slightly to 10,258 in 2025 from 10,332 in 2024, indicating limited service intensity despite higher registrations.
Overall, the VAHAN dashboard data shows that Odisha’s vehicle ecosystem continues to expand steadily, with 2026 beginning on a positive note and 2025 delivering strong year-on-year growth. The expansion is being driven largely by two-wheelers and private cars, while urban centres such as Bhubaneswar remain the primary growth engines, even as smaller districts record gradual increases in vehicle adoption.
