Chennai (IANS) | The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday canceled the centenary year celebrations of late chief minister and DMK leader M. Karunanidhi as a mark of respect to the victims of the Odisha train accident. Karunanidhi’s son Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will pay homage at the Kalaignar Karunanidhi statue and the Kalaignar Memorial, while all other public events have been cancelled.
The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), which had planned several public events scheduled for this evening, has rescheduled the events.
Meanwhile, the chief minister has deputed two ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin and SS Shivshankar to reach Odisha along with three IAS officers and coordinate with railway officials.
