Odisha Sarapanch apprehended along with husband for taking bribe

Angul: Odisha Vigilance today apprehended a Sarapanch along with her husband in Angul district for demand and acceptance of a bribe of Rs 20,000.

Mamali Samal, the Sarapanch of Susuba Grama Panchayat of Angul district along with her husband Sisira Samal was apprehended by the Vigilance sleuths for taking the bribe from a beneficiary (complainant) for facilitating release of pending wage bill of labourers engaged in digging of his pond under MGNREGS project.

On the direction of the Sarapanch, her husband while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 20,000 from the complainant was nabbed today by the team of Odisha Vigilance in the office chamber of PEO, Susuba G.P in presence of the Sarpanch. The entire bribe money has been recovered from them and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Rout from DA angle.

In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance P.S. case No.18 dtd.22.07.2024 U/s-7/12 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against both the Sarapanch and her husband. Detailed report follows.
