Odisha: Absconding minor girl’s killer arrested from Chhattisgarh

Bhubaneswar: The accused, who was on the run after killing a minor girl at Kuio village under Sadar police limits in Angul district earlier this month, has been arrested by Odisha police from Chhattisgarh.

A special team of Angul district police arrested Ranjan Behera, the accused. However, the reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.

It is to be noted here that Behera killed the minor girl, Khusi Sahu, by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon by forcibly entering her house on May 8. He fled from the spot after committing the crime.

The family members immediately rescued Khusi in a critical state and rushed her to the Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH). However, she breathed her last while undergoing treatment.

On being informed, the Sadar police had started an investigation into the matter. The cops had launched a manhunt to nab the accused and subsequently, they arrested him from Chhattisgarh yesterday.

The police could trace and arrested the accused after he posted some photos of him with the girl on Facebook, said sources adding that the district police likely to conduct a press conference and brief more details about the crime.
