Chandigarh: An NRI of Punjabi origin has alleged that some people attacked him in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh. Kawaljit Singh has been living in Spain for about 25 years. These days he has come to get treatment from a hospital in Amritsar. He had gone to Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh for a trip. He claimed that he was attacked because he was a Punjabi. He says that he was attacked to take revenge for the incident of slapping the newly elected BJP MP Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport recently.
Himachal Pradesh Police has rejected this allegation and said that this is not any kind of inter-state or inter-community fight. At the same time, NRI Affairs Minister in Punjab Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla and Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia have demanded action from the Himachal Pradesh government. Majithia and Aulja say that this case is related to the slap given to Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut. CISF jawan Kulwinder Kaur slapped Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport.
Let us tell you that the victim Kawaljit has been living in Spain with his Spanish wife for the last 25 years. Recently he came to Punjab. After this, he went to Dalhousie with his wife and other relatives. Singh says that a mob of 100 people attacked him. He also alleges that the police was also being biased in this matter. However, the senior IPS officer has rejected this allegation.
IG Northern Range told PTI that Singh had gone to visit Khajjiar in Chamba. He was looking at the hand of a woman. An argument broke out over this and then a fight started. Later both the parties reached a settlement in front of the police. He had given in writing that he did not want any legal action. He said, thousands of tourists are coming here every day in summer. Only one such case has come to light.
Meanwhile, Amritsar MP Aujla said that the attackers were taking the name of Kangana Ranaut. They said that whatever happened with Kangana Ranaut will be done with them too. Aujla has demanded the Himachal Pradesh government to take strict action against the accused. Akali Dal leader Majithia also condemned the incident and said that the people of Himachal are attacking Punjabis because of Kangana Ranaut’s statement. Punjab’s NRI Minister Dhaliwal said that he has written a letter to the Himachal government in this matter.
