Raigarh. Has anyone ever thought of getting electricity bills in minus? Getting bills for electricity consumption every month and paying for it is a process that has been going on for years. But there should be a system by which the electricity bill comes in minus. That is, you do not get a bill for the electricity you are using, but some amount is deducted from the next month’s bill in advance. Earlier it was not possible to think about this, but today it is becoming possible with the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Consumers’ electricity bills are coming in minus even in the scorching summer months like April, May, while the consumption increases manifold in these months. Through this scheme, consumers are now generating electricity by installing small solar power houses on the roofs of their houses. They use only the amount of electricity consumed in the house, the rest of the electricity is transferred to the grid of the electricity department. The department adjusts the electricity taken from the consumer in the next electricity bill.
The objective of the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, run under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is to provide affordable electricity to consumers through solar energy. Under the PM Suryaghar Yojana, subsidy is given by the government for installing solar system, which is deposited directly in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. Also, they also get bank loan at cheap rates. With this scheme, the electricity bills of the people are getting reduced and their savings are increasing. This is also an important step towards sustainable energy solution. On the instructions of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, this scheme is being implemented on a large scale in the state. For this, a provision has been made by the state government to give subsidy of up to 30 thousand under the PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme.
By joining this scheme, the beneficiaries will be able to generate electricity by installing solar systems on the roofs of their houses. This system of theirs will be connected to the grid of the electricity department. The electricity that remains after consumption from the produced electricity will be transferred to the grid. Which will be adjusted in the electricity bill. Due to this, that much amount will be reduced from the electricity bill and the consumer will get direct benefit in the form of economic savings. With this scheme, the beneficiaries will not only become consumers of electricity but also its producers. To avail the benefits of the scheme, you can contact the electricity office near you.
Mr. Babu Lal Chaudhary, a resident of Kodatarai in Raigad district, has installed a 3 kilowatt solar system in his house under the PM Suryaghar Yojana. It cost him Rs 1.90 lakh. Out of which he got a subsidy of Rs 78 thousand from the government. If we compare his bills of April and May of the year 2024 and 2025, then his bill which was Rs 1120 in April 2024 became -1417 rupees in April 2025 this year after installing the solar panel. Which means that he can take this much electricity from the electricity department in the future and use it, but he will not have to pay any money for it. Because his solar panel generated more electricity than his domestic requirement, which was transferred to the grid of the electricity department. Due to this, he got a rebate of Rs 2581. In which his April bill was adjusted and Rs 1417 was deposited with the electricity department in advance. Whereas in May 2025, his electricity bill was -1127 rupees, which was 1490 rupees in the same period in the year 2024. Babulal Chaudhary said that in April and May when there is severe heat, cooler fans are running continuously. Even in such a situation, the electricity bill coming in minus is a big relief. CSPDCL officials said that the adjustment of the consumption unit and the produced unit of the consumer with solar system is automatic. The electricity consumers transfer to the grid of the electricity department are using it later for free as per their need.
