Bhilai. Notorious criminal Anupam Jha, who was absconding from Durg District Hospital, has been injured in a police encounter. Bihar Police arrested him from the temple of Maa Vaishno Devi in Jammu. After arresting the accused, when the police was bringing him, he stopped the car on the pretext of going to the toilet. Then he snatched the police pistol and started running away.
During this, he also fired about 8 rounds at the police. Both his legs were injured in retaliatory firing. He has been admitted to PMCH in Patna for treatment. Doctors have expressed fear that his leg may have to be amputated. Anupam Jha had escaped from Central Jail Durg along with his associates by showing a pistol from the hospital on the pretext of treatment.
Actually, Bihar Police had arrested Anupam Jha from Katra, Jammu in connection with the robbery of Rs 51 lakh at Calcutta Jewelers in Muzaffarpur on April 10. Three miscreants including the main accused Anupam Jha have also been arrested. SSP Rakesh Kumar told that Anupam Jha stopped the car near the bridge in Fakuli on the pretext of toilet and started running away with the police pistol. The police vehicle was hit by two bullets in about 8 rounds of firing. Anupam was shot in the leg in police retaliation. Three miscreants were surrounded and arrested.
