Noel Tata: Looking forward to carrying forward the legacy of Ratan Naval Tata

Mumbai Mumbai: Newly appointed chairman of Tata Trusts Noel Naval Tata on Friday said he is looking forward to carrying forward the legacy of Ratan Naval Tata and the founders of the Tata Group. The Tata Trusts board in a joint meeting here unanimously decided to appoint Noel Tata, the half-brother of Ratan Tata, as the new chairman after his demise. “I am deeply honoured and humbled by the responsibility entrusted to me by my fellow trustees. I look forward to carrying forward the legacy of Shri Ratan N. Tata and the founders of the Tata Group,” Noel Tata said.

“The Tata Trusts, established more than a century ago, are a unique vehicle for social good. On this auspicious occasion, we rededicate ourselves to furthering our developmental and philanthropic initiatives and playing our role in nation building,” he said. The trustees condoled the demise of Ratan Tata and recalled his contributions not only to the Tata Group but also to nation building. In separate meetings held soon after, it was unanimously decided to appoint Noel Tata as the chairman of the various trusts that make up the Tata Trusts and to appoint him as the chairman of the Tata Trusts.

Noel Tata’s appointment has come into effect immediately. Noel Tata is known for his relatively low-profile leadership, in contrast to Ratan Tata’s more public role. Since joining the Tata Group in the early 2000s, he has played a key role in the group’s growth. Earlier this year, Noel Tata’s three children – Leah, Maya and Neville – were appointed as trustees in several trusts associated with the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. Leah is currently vice-chairman at The Indian Hotels while Maya is associated with Tata Capital. Neville is associated with the leadership team at Trent and Star Bazaar. Since 1892, Tata Trusts, India’s oldest philanthropic institution, has been at the forefront of creating a lasting impact across communities. Rooted in the visionary philanthropy of our Founder, Jamsetji Tata, the Trust is determined to catalyze transformational change and lead progress that advances communities across the country.
